Ride & Network: Let's Ride Together

About 90 cycling enthusiasts from the ZRH Community and the Construction Ride Community came together for the “Ride & Network” event at The Circle Sport to ride and network.

Sometimes the best networking doesn’t happen in a conference room, but on two wheels: That’s exactly what happened on August 7, when the ZRH Community and the Construction Ride Community got on their bikes together for the second time. At the “Ride & Network” event, around 90 participants from both communities gathered for a joint Construction Ride. The group included road and gravel bike riders of various skill levels. The event was hosted by The Circle, Novu Campus and beyondBIM.

Construction Ride brings together cycling enthusiasts from the construction, real estate, and infrastructure industries. The idea behind it: a shared passion for cycling creates opportunities for new connections and casual professional networking.

Hitting the Road

Before hitting the road, a brief athletic warm-up set the right tone. Stefan Feldmann, Head of The Circle, spoke with Christoph Joho, Co-CEO of Weltklasse Zürich. When asked what cyclists could learn from track and field athletes, Joho replied with a wink: “That even with the best equipment, you still have to pedal or run yourself—that’s something track and field athletes may have understood better.”

Afterward, Alar Jost, one of the two founders of Construction Ride, brought two young cyclists up to the microphone. The young cyclists then took on an active role, accompanying the participants as guides.

Three Routes, One Shared Experience

Divided into groups and each led by a guide, the approximately 90 riders set off. There were three tours of varying difficulty to choose from: the long road loop covered about 57 kilometers and 860 meters of elevation gain, plus a slightly shorter road bike route and a gravel loop.

Participants were certainly encouraged to pedal hard. “The pace was incredibly fast, but it was a blast” one participant summed up the ride. But the Construction Ride wasn’t just about kilometers, elevation gain, and speed. Just as important was the shared experience along the way - and the opportunity to meet people from different companies and fields.

From Drafting to Networking

Back at The Circle, a small giveaway awaited the participants: Gottlieber Hüppen for some well-deserved refreshments and a practical multifunctional tool from Daysaver for the next ride.

Afterward, the action shifted to the garden in front of the Novu Campus. Over grilled meats, salads, and drinks, the ride finally became a “Ride & Network”: conversations from the afternoon continued, new connections were made, and participants shared their shared experiences on the route.

A Community That Brings People Together

It’s precisely these kinds of encounters that are at the heart of the ZRH Community. It brings together the approximately 25,000 employees of the companies at The Circle and at Zurich Airport through business, after-work, and sports events. The Construction Ride demonstrated once again just how straightforward networking can be: setting off together, drafting off each other—and then continuing the conversation over a good meal.
